The Council’s advocate member, Stephen O’Rourke, recently attended the Next Steps conference organised by Holyrood Events which focused on how community justice partners can work to reduce offending and strengthen communities. Read his blog on the issues most relevant to sentencing.

The Council is holding an engagement event with a range of stakeholders to help inform the development of its guideline on sentencing young people, one of the key pieces of work announced in its Business Plan for 2015-18.

The Council works to increase its understanding of all aspects of sentencing and engages with a wide range of organisations. It continued this ongoing work when members heard a presentation on ‘children and the sentencing of parents’.

Council Chair, Lady Dorrian, joined a group of leading Scottish legal minds to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day.

Deputy Chief Constable Iain Livingstone has been appointed as the Council’s new constable member.
