Council meeting
The Council held its final meeting of 2016 on 12 December at Airdrie Sheriff Court hosted by Sheriff Principal Ian Abercrombie, QC.
Members observed a range of cases in different courts during a morning tour, before continuing work on the first Council guideline - the principles and purposes of sentencing.
The Council also launched new resource material which expands the About Sentencing section of the website. This now provides comprehensive and accessible information on:
- how judges decide sentences
- what sentences are available in Scotland
- what happens when a person is sentenced.
In other business, members agreed to facilitate an engagement event on 28 April next year around sentencing young people.
