Lady Dorrian QC has been appointed as the new Lord Justice Clerk which, by virtue of the office, makes her the new Chair of the Council.

The Council has brought together comprehensive and easy to read information on sentencing practice in a bid to demystify the sentencing process in Scotland.

Lord Carloway, the Lord President, spoke yesterday of the Council’s role in sentencing when he delivered the speech, 'Imprisonment in Scotland: towards a penological post-modernism’ to the Scottish Universities Insight Institute.

Council member Allan Findlay has been appointed as one of Scotland’s first summary sheriffs.

Secondary legislation is now in place requiring the Council to submit a three-year Business Plan to the Scottish Parliament.
